Taxis are readily available outside STT airport. If renting on St. Thomas and driving over: Use the car barge from Red Hook to St. John.

is there taxi services?

Yes, both St. Thomas and St. John have taxi services. St. Thomas offers plenty of taxis, mostly shared open-air safari trucks, easily found at the airport, Red Hook, Charlotte Amalie, and major resorts. St. John also has taxis—mainly at the Cruz Bay ferry dock and popular beaches—but service is more limited, especially at night or in remote areas. Fares on both islands are per person, not per vehicle. Taxis work well for quick trips, but many visitors still prefer renting a car on St. John for convenience and flexibility.

where do I park?

Parking in Cruz Bay can be limited, but there are several reliable options. The most convenient paid lots are L&L Parking (right by the ferry dock) and the Slim Man’s Parking lot near the Methodist Church. There’s also limited free parking at the Customs lot and along some side streets, though these fill quickly. For longer stays, visitors often use the gravel lot near the roundabout or the parking area by the tennis courts just outside town and walk in. Arriving early is always recommended, especially during peak season or dinner hours.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit St. John is from December to April, when the weather is warm, sunny, and perfect for beaches and hiking. This is peak season, so the island is livelier and prices are higher. For fewer crowds and great weather, May and early June are ideal. If you prefer quieter travel and lower rates, late summer to fall (July–October)offers the best deals, though it’s hurricane season and some businesses may close temporarily. Overall, St. John is beautiful year-round—you just pick the vibe you want!

how common are the power outages?

Power outages do happen in the USVI, but they’re usually brief and not a major disruption most of the time. St. John relies on WAPA for electricity, and while outages aren’t constant, they can occur during heavy rain, strong winds, or when the system is overloaded. Most are short and resolved quickly.
